A Reintroduction

Hi, I’m Allison.

There’s a Full House episode in the first season where Danny Tanner turns 30. The late Bob Saget was already 31 while that episode aired on ABC. When you’re a little girl watching sitcom reruns, 30 doesn’t sound like it’s anywhere near you. Then, eventually, it might be closer than you can believe. I am relaunching my blog this year, documenting this last six months of my twenties and then the transition to my thirties—all with pop culture as the frame of reference.

I am a journalist based near Detroit, but I grew up in Northeast Florida. After earning a master’s degree in religion and the arts from Yale in 2019, I started this blog in 2020 as a place to write about nostalgia. Since then, I have worked as a writer, editor, and reporter, telling pop culture stories for numerous other outlets. My work has been featured in Vanity Fair, Glamour, The Daily Beast, Business Insider, SFGATE, Today, Sojourners, and more to come.

My blog title came from the idea of examining the past while moving forward. “Walking through our most meaningful memories” was my original tagline. I like to think about time, nostalgia, and pop culture’s impact on who people are and who we become. In a new chapter, I’m finding more layers within myself—and within others who trust me to share stories from their lives.

The older I get, the more intensely I feel time marching forward. However, my mind also unearths more and more memories, snapshots of my childhood and adolescence that I had forgotten.

I’m blogging again because I want to share more of my life with friends and family. I am also reigniting this site as a cool place where I interview people who inspire me, and where friends might take over and author their own pieces. If you like Disney Channel, pop music, faith & culture, or any of the other things I’ve written about, this place is for you, too.
